Frequently
Asked Questions:
Here are answers to some of the most common questions about the
Louisville Extreme Park. If your question isn't answered here, call
Metro Parks at 502/456-8100 or e-mail
parks@louisvilleky.gov.
Directions are available [here].
Are
helmets required?
Yes.
A local ordinance requires participants of all ages to wear helmets
while using the skatepark. A helmet, worn properly, can reduce
the chance of serious head injury by up to 88 percent. For maximum
protection, you may want to also consider the use of knee pads,
elbow pads and wrist guards. There are several nearby shops catering
to park users if you arrive at the park without safety gear.
What
age restrictions are in place?
There
are no age restrictions at the skatepark, although parents are
strongly encouraged to supervise their minor children to ensure
their safety. The park is unstaffed, and is used at your own risk.
Small children should never be left unattended in any park.
When
does the Louisville Extreme Park close?
The
park is open 6 a.m. to 11 p.m., seven days a week. Please don't attempt to clear
ice or snow from the bowls, as you may inadvertently damage the
concrete surface. The park may also close unexpectedly if Metro
Parks needs to remove graffiti or repair vandalism. You can help
prevent this by calling the Louisville Metro Police Department
at 502/574-7111 if you see vandalism in progress. To report vandalism
that has already taken place, so that it can be repaired, call
MetroCall at 311 or 502/574-5000.
What
can I do if I need emergency assistance while using the park?
An emergency call box is located on a light post between the wooden
vert ramp and the intermediate skill area. Press the button to
summon assistance. If you have a cell phone, you can also call
911 for emergency service.
How
do I schedule a demo or other event at the Louisville Extreme Park?
You
must have a permit to hold an event in any local park. At least
one month before your proposed event, contact the Metro Parks Special Events office at 502/368-5865 or click here.
Metro Parks will provide a guide to hosting successful events
at the Extreme Park. (Large events may require more than one month's
lead time.)
Can
my band play at the Louisville Extreme Park?
The Louisville Extreme Park was not designed to host concerts;
we are unable to issue permits for musical performances.
What
hotels are near the Louisville Extreme Park?
The
park is just east of downtown Louisville, where many hotels can
be found. For assistance in locating accommodations, contact the
Greater
Louisville Convention & Visitors Bureau at 1-800-626-5646
or info@gotolouisville.com.
How
can I sell merchandise at the Louisville Extreme Park?
Commercial
transactions are not permitted at the skatepark.
What's
the status of the park's second phase?
Approximately
$3 million in public funding has been spent on the park's outdoor
features and restrooms, and the park is considered one of the
world's best public skateparks. A second phase, featuring a 20,000
square foot indoor facility for skateboarders, bicyclists and
in-line skaters remains part of the park's master plan, although
it will likely require private funding.
I'm
from another city, and I'd like to encourage my city's leaders to
build
a skatepark. Can you help me convince them?
Metro
Parks cannot speak to the appropriateness of a park like the Louisville
Extreme Park in another city, but we'd be happy to answer your
questions about our experience. Contact our Public Information
Office at 502/456-3253 or e-mail
parks@louisvilleky.gov.

for public skateparks through the Skatepark
